The switch-hitting infielder was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the third round of the 1983 First-Year Player Draft and played three seasons (1983-85) in the Giants farm system...Drafted four times: in 1980 by the Cleveland Indians, in 1981 by both the Houston Astros (January) and Cincinnati Reds (June), and in 1983 by the Giants (June, signed).

Long and his wife, Dian, reside in Edmonds, WA...The couple has three sons: Stewart, Preston, and Tyler...Attended Meadowdale (WA) HS, Edmonds Community College (WA), and Washington State University...Selected by the San Francisco Giants in the third round of the 1983 First-Year Player Draft.
